Ybycui

Location

The area in which the Ybycui National Park is located, is formed by hills and hillsides. Several streams with permanent and intermittent flows through the valleys, forming falls and natural pools along their way.
The principlal rivers beds are the Mina and the Carai-Mi. More than 15 falls and 20 water beds have been found within the limits of the Park. To the north there is the highest point with aprox 400 meters height above sea level. The yearly average temperature is 20ºC.
There is an historic zone in which you can find reconstructed ruins of the first iron foundry in Paraguay and Southamerica, known as La Rosada.

Fauna

A system of rocks with specific flora and fauna species that cannot be found in other areas. There are 42 registered species of mammals, 129 birds, 18 reptiles, 26 amphibious and 68 insects. Some of them are in danger of extinction like the lobopé guazupucu and the famous yacare overo (an alligator).

Flora

Among the endangered flora we can mention yvyra ysy, several species of cactus (of the family of the Disacactus, frailes and pilocereus), the cedar and the mimosa toparanaensi.

Day 1: Asunción – La Rosada – National Park Ybycui – Mbocaruzu Falls / 175 Km
In the morning departure from Asunción to La Rosada. There we will visit the reconstructed ruins of the first Iron Foundry of Paraguay and Southamerica, and its historical museum. Then we will arrive at the National Park Ybycui characterized by its crystalline streams with falls, and natural pools. After a picnic we will walk along paths observing rocks, ferns, orchids that form a beautiful natural garden. A few kilometers away, but still inside the park we will get to the famous Mbocaruzu falls. Camping and dinner (L-D).

Day 2: Mbocaruzú Falls – Carai-mi Falls / 10 Km
At dawn, after breakfast tours through the forest, until we get to the Carai mi stream. We will walk along the stream partly by water and partly on land and we will appreciate the beauty of nature and the attractive fauna and flora of the place. We will pass waterfalls, natural pools and stone walls of geologic formation. In the afternoon, tour around the zone and a refreshing bath in the Mbocaruzu falls. Camping and dinner (B-L-D).

Day 3: Mbocaruzu Falls – Cristal Falls – La Colmena – Asunción / 205 Km
Departure to Cristal Fall. At aprox. 20 Km from the place we will go down about 30 meters to get to the stream and walk in the shallow water (100 meters) until the spectacular Cristal Fall of aprox. 50 meters of height. After having lunch in La Colmena, arrival in Asunción (B-L
